Production: Filming

We originally planned to film at Jubilee Gardens, however we changed this a few days before filming to Crystal Palace Park. The reason for changing it was to suit the needs of the actors, as they would not have been able to get to and from Jubilee Gardens in time for a previous commitment.

Crystal Palace Park was chosen as the replacement park because it has so many more things to offer than Jubilee Gardens did. This includes a park cafe (which we filmed outside of), ponds, lots of open green spaces and even statues of dinosaurs and animals.

The props we had were perfect, there were a few dolls which we chose the best ones from, and there were three phones to use (mine, Sam's and the Mum's). Although, when we called the Mum's phone for the scene in which the phone rings, there was quite a bit of feedback from the boom microphone. We got around this by playing a ring tone, and pretending that the phone was actually ringing. This had to be filmed a few times, as the actor playing the Mum answered the phone before the ring tone had finished.

We also planned to have only one little girl in the film, but the girls sister wanted to be in it as well, so we ended up filming the short film with both girls. This was difficult as they both changed their mind multiple times about wanting to be in the film, after we'd filmed parts of it, and we had to try to convince them to carry on acting.

The actors were very well prepared and the Mum had even dressed both girls in the came clothes, with the same hairstyle. This would have been helpful if the filming went to plan with one child character, as we could have used each girl in different shots, in case one of them didn't want to do something and the other did.

We couldn't get them to learn the lines we intended to use for the main part of the film, so we have a few shots of them making the dolls fight, hopefully this will be enough, else we will have to either film some more or use other shots.
